Nexium 24 Hour Heartburn Relief Medicine is a proton pump inhibitor for managing heartburn and reducing acid levels in the body during the day. It works to relieve the discomfort associated with frequent heartburn, reduce heartburn related activity and improves overall well-being.
Nexium 24HR works by inhibiting the proton pump (epistline). This helps to lower acid in the stomach.
Take this medicine as advised by your doctor. Swallow the tablet as a whole with water. The medicine can be taken with or without food.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, it should be periodically based based based on your medical condition and treatment. If you do stop taking this medicine after a certain period, your doctor may ask you to temporarily reduce the dosage if not. Do not change the way how dosage is prescribed.
If you have not used the full amount of this medicine then you can take the medicine for as long as may be necessary to see how you react to it. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water. Keep taking the medicine even if you feel well before your medicine is gone.
Inform your doctor if you are taking this medicine if you are suffering from any medical condition. Tell your doctor immediately if you are allergic to any medicine. Ask your doctor if you may need to lower the dosage if you are not allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant or with any stress condition on you. This medicine is usually prescribed for children below 12 years. Keep taking this medicine even if you feel well.
Nexium 24HR is not advised for people with heartburn with or without a past history of heartburn or heartburn who are currently taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as lansoprazole (Prevacid) and pantoprazole (Protonix).
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects. If any of the symptoms are not go away, tell your doctor. Some common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, back pain, headache, and hair loss.

As recently as April 2019, the U. S. Esomeprazole is taken orally once a day for 14 days, with or without food.
This drug has no significant effect on your stomach and will work best if you take it with a large glass of water.
If you have heartburn or acid reflux, you may take this or a similar drug called omeprazole (Prilosec®) twice a day for 14 days to treat the hardened stomach.
Esomeprazole is a similar drug to ZantRo, known as “the acid reflux drug” or “” (referred to as Nexium®). Nexium is also used to treat other stomach problems as well, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Pepcid® (famciclovir), and others.
The American College of Gastroenterology has also given the body a nod in its entirety about whether esomeprazole is superior to the other H2-receptor drugs.
The FDA said that “it’s now clear that esomeprazole is the superior drug choice for the treatment of reflux symptoms caused by heartburn and acid reflux.”

What is Reflux?
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising up to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
Do I get instant relief from taking a Nexium tablet?
Nexium Control is not meant to bring immediate relief. You may need to take the tablets for 2-3 days in a row before you feel better. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.
How much to take• The recommended dose is one tablet a day. • Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. • You may need to take the tablets for 2 or 3 days in a row before your reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation) get better. • The treatment length is up to 14 days. • When your reflux symptoms have completely gone you should stop taking this medicine. • If your reflux symptoms get worse or do not improve after taking this medicine for 14 days in a row, you should consult a doctor. If you have persistent or longstanding, frequently recurring symptoms even after treatment with this medicine, you should contact your doctor. Taking this medicine • You can take your tablet at any time of the day either with food or on an empty stomach. • Swallow your tablet whole with half a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. This is because the tablet contains coated pellets, which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the pellets.
Alternative method of taking this medicine• Put the tablet in a glass of still (non-fizzy) water. Do not use any other liquids. • Stir until the tablet breaks up (the mixture will not be clear) then drink the mixture straight away or within 30 minutes. Always stir the mixture just before drinking it. • To make sure that you have drunk all of the medicine, rinse the glass very well with half a glass of water and drink it. The solid pieces contain the medicine – do not chew or crush them
